HDL Cholesterol
Ok, I hear you say - 'good cholesterol' - what's that all about? Indeed it can be very confusing and it is only recently that the medical profession has become clearer with this subject.
HDL cholesterol is basically like a superhero that picks up excess cholesterol in your blood and takes it back to your liver for disposal - cool huh!
It prevents a buildup in your arteries to leave it to function properly and keep you stayin' alive! So, the higher your HDL cholesterol, the less bad cholesterol (LDL) your body will have to deal with.
So, this means a decreased chance of heart disease and heart attacks, which is great news.
It has therefore become a bit of a balancing act to increase the presence of the HDL cholesterol at the same time as reducing the amount of LDL cholesterol - which is often a tricky balancing act…..
