Low Cholesterol Diets
The good news is that "Cholesterol Diets" as they are often rather confusingly referred to need not be as awful as they sound or taste terrible.
In fact, if you follow my guide and maybe even a bit of your instincts you may even find that your new selection of food can be a pretty tasty step forward.
The first and most important thing you must do when developing your diet to lower cholesterol is to cut out Trans Fats. I can not over emphasis that this is the best decision you can do to help to protect yourself today.
The America Heart Association confirms that reducing Transfats is the most important step towards a low cholesterol diet.
Here is what to look out for and AVOID:
- All McDonalds, KFC, Burger King and their similar little friends. This I includes all burgers, fries, pies, EVERYTHING no exceptions.
- Check nutritional labels in the supermarket for anything that says 'partially hydrogenated vegetable oils' or the like and put them right back on the shelf. This stuff officially sucks for your body so don't give into temptation or attractive packaging that aims to look 'homemade style'. Branding can be very misleading.
Basically you have to retrain yourself to develop a low cholesterol diet. Some people are luckier than others as a lot depends on what food you are used to and what food you grew up with. Those of us that grew up with fast food and microwave ready meals have to work that bit harder to stick to a diet to lower cholesterol. In the same note, those of you that have children should not feel isolated in your problem. I have recently received many emails from men that feel excluded from meal times as they cannot eat the food that the rest of their families eat. Well, help your children tomorrow by giving them a watered down version of your food plan today so that they automatically get used to a low cholesterol diet. It won't do anybody any harm doing the two steps above.
Are you trying to avoid fast food and finding it easier than you thought? Please share your thoughts below and help others. Thanks
